Hobby, The (1): The collective ways in which Diplomacy is played, organised, etc.
Hobby, The (2): Very properly, the description of the Postal Diplomacy arm of the Hobby (see above) and, specifically, the UK Diplomacy Hobby. This included the zines and the people who read them and played Diplomacy in them.

Hobby Awards: A way of recognising contributions to the Dip Hobby. There have been an almost innumerable number of awards across the Hobby historically. The first set of awards were organised by Larry Peery in 1972. They were organised by zines and by communities. These days there are, that I know of, just one set of awards, organised by THE BRIEFING.
Hobbymasters: Another term for DIPLOMINATI.
Hold (order): An instruction given to a playing piece in Diplomacy: the piece stays in the space it occupies.
Holdover: When a deadline is postponed in a game. There may be several reasons for this, and these tend to be different online and off.
Home SC: A Supply Centre on the board of Diplomacy that, at the start of the game, belongs to one of the powers in the game.
Hoosier Archives (1): An early Dipzine, the forerunner of Diplomacy World.
Hoosier Archives (2): The first attempt to archive a full set of Dipzines from around the world.
Host: Occasionally refers to the person or place where a Diplomacy game is being played, but much more often to a zine, website or app where a game is being played.
Hostage Centre: A supply centre owned by one player but effectively controlled by another. The owning player is ‘held hostage’ by the other player. A good way for someone to keep their Dip Bitch under control.
Housecon: A Diplomacy tournament that is, literally, small enough to be held in someone’s house. Usually involves a tournament for a local Dip community. The MELBOURNE OPEN used to be a housecon, until it got big. THE DIPLOMACY GAMES PODCAST’s fault, I feel.

House game: A game of Diplomacy played as it was designed to be played, between friends and family as a one-off game, played just for fun. Bearing in mind that Diplomacy was sold with the warning “Destroying friendships since 1959” for some time, perhaps not the wisest way to play..?
House Rules: Rules for playing Diplomacy in a Dipzine or on a Diplomacy site.
Hybrid Scoring: A method of scoring Diplomacy games that incorporates some form of DRAW-SIZE SCORING and SUPPLY CENTRE SCORING.
